Description

Children Paediatric ENT At uurja, we understand the unique healthcare needs of children, especially when it comes to ear, nose, and throat (ENT) conditions. Our Paediatric ENT section is dedicated to providing specialized care for infants, children, and adolescents with a wide range of ENT disorders. From routine evaluations to complex surgical interventions, our team of experienced paediatric otolaryngologists is committed to ensuring the well-being of your child's ear, nose, and throat health. Common Conditions in Paediatric ENT 1. Ear Infections (Otitis Media) Ear infections are one of the most common paediatric ENT conditions, affecting many children during their early years. These infections can cause symptoms such as ear pain, fever, irritability, and difficulty hearing. Treatment may involve antibiotics, pain management, and in some cases, surgical intervention such as myringotomy and grommet insertion. 2. Tonsillitis and Adenoiditis Tonsillitis and adenoiditis are inflammatory conditions of the tonsils and adenoids, respectively, often caused by bacterial or viral infections. Symptoms may include sore throat, difficulty swallowing, fever, and enlarged tonsils or adenoids. Surgical procedures such as tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy may be recommended for recurrent or severe cases. 3. Airway Disorders Airway disorders in children can range from congenital abnormalities such as laryngomalacia and tracheomalacia to acquired conditions such as vocal cord paralysis and subglottic stenosis. These disorders can cause symptoms such as stridor, respiratory distress, and feeding difficulties. Treatment may involve laryngo-tracheo-bronchoscopy (LTB) for diagnostic evaluation and laryngotracheal reconstruction for surgical correction. 4. Neck Masses Neck masses in children can be congenital or acquired and may arise from various structures such as lymph nodes, thyroid gland, or salivary glands. While many neck masses are benign, some may require surgical excision for diagnosis and treatment. Neck mass excision is a surgical procedure performed to remove abnormal or concerning masses in the neck region. Procedures in Paediatric ENT Our paediatric otolaryngologists are skilled in performing a variety of procedures to diagnose and treat ear, nose, and throat disorders in children. Some of the procedures commonly adopted in Paediatric ENT include: Tonsillectomy Tonsillectomy is a surgical procedure used to remove the tonsils, which are lymphoid tissues located at the back of the throat. It may be recommended for children with recurrent tonsillitis, sleep-disordered breathing, or obstructive sleep apnoea. Adenoidectomy Adenoidectomy is a surgical procedure used to remove the adenoids, which are lymphoid tissues located at the back of the nose. It may be recommended for children with recurrent adenoiditis, chronic sinusitis, or obstructive sleep-disordered breathing. Myringotomy and Grommet Insertion Myringotomy is a surgical procedure used to create a small incision in the eardrum to relieve pressure and drain fluid from the middle ear. Grommet insertion involves placing a small tube (grommet) into the eardrum to ventilate the middle ear and prevent fluid accumulation. These procedures are commonly performed for children with recurrent middle ear infections or persistent fluid in the middle ear. Laryngo-Tracheo-Bronchoscopy (LTB) Laryngo-tracheo-bronchoscopy is a diagnostic procedure used to evaluate the upper and lower airway structures, including the larynx, trachea, and bronchi, using a flexible endoscope. It allows for visualization of anatomical abnormalities, assessment of airway function, and collection of tissue samples for biopsy. Laryngotracheal Reconstruction Laryngotracheal reconstruction is a surgical procedure used to correct airway stenosis or narrowing in the larynx and trachea. It involves various techniques such as cartilage grafting, laryngeal keel placement, and tracheal resection and anastomosis to restore airway patency and improve breathing. Neck Mass Excision Neck mass excision is a surgical procedure used to remove abnormal or concerning masses located in the neck region. It may be performed under general anesthesia and involves making an incision in the neck to access and remove the mass while preserving surrounding structures and minimizing scarring.
